Public Allies is a national organization dedicated to providing diverse young leaders with the skills to strengthen communities, nonprofits and civic organizations. Through a partnership program with other organizations, Public Allies offers 10-month paid apprenticeships requiring four workdays per week and includes extensive leadership training and community outreach. Applications for the Public Allies Class of 2007 are due April 14 for the program which will commence on Sept. 5. Community Mediation, Inc. (CM) will receive $30,000 to participate in Empower New Haven’s Non-Profit Academy as a 2006 Community Development Grant award recipient. The Community Development Grant awards are aimed at providing capacity building support for non-profit organizations that serve the Empowerment Zone communities, have been in existence for at least five years and have annual budgets of over $250,000. This is the second year that Empower New Haven has offered New Haven Non-Profit Academy grant awards to both Community Development and Emerging Non-Profit Organizations.
