Zinch gives you an equal opportunity to go to any college you want. It gives you another tool to use, to help get you recruited. Zinch gets you in front of colleges and allows you to be proactive in the college admissions process. Don’t make college admissions a passive process, hoping that by some miracle, colleges in America will find you. Shout aloud your dream university; then go get it. You are more than a test score. Find them. Show them. Personalize the process.

Can you help the planet just by searching the web?

Idealbite.com recommends the following little search engines that could support your favorite causes and save energy.
The Benefits
The same good results. These search engines pull their results from the Google or Yahoo databases.
Donating to charity. Get on the donation train - each search you do via a charity search engine generates about $0.01 for good causes (the money comes from the ads on search-engine sites).
Saving energy. Some engines have a dark background color instead of white, which when viewed on older, CRT monitors - consumes 20% less energy than typical engines.

GoodSearch - powered by Yahoo, it donates 50% of revenues to a charity you choose each time you search.
Blackle - an unofficial black version of Google that uses less energy than the white version on some screens (for a more colorful option, try The Green Spider).
CatchTomorrow - customizable news, weather, and search options; donates 50% of revenues to the public school district of your choice.
Green Maven - though it's not for charity, this Google-based search engine yields results from green-related websites only.

Furniture giveaways

Wallingford Public Library has quite a bit of furniture and equipment that could be useful to others, including dozens of white, well used kik-step stools, and 2 large Kingsley outdoor book returns. The book returns are in very good condition and have been sheltered from the weather.

Soon to be available: paperback racks, office furniture, miscellaneous shelving and large (25 year old but well maintained) reference and circulation desks. The circulation desk would make a great bar if anyone is opening a library themed restaurant.

New Haven County Cutters Retire From the Field

Dear Loyal Fans, Sponsors and Community Partners,

It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you that the New Haven County Cutters will not be playing baseball at Yale Field in 2008. Since relocating to New Haven in early 2004, we have enjoyed a number of successes both on and off the field which would not have been possible without your loyal support, enthusiasm and friendship. For that, we will always be grateful and have fond memories of our years in the Elm City.

Our mission has always been to provide a fan-friendly venue where families and friends could gather to spend a relaxing summer evening outdoors enjoying America’s pastime, cheering for home team heroes, and living their dreams. Off the field, our goal has been to partner with youth and not-for-profit organizations to support them in the realization of their goals and dreams. We stood for family values, wholesomeness and inclusivity.

We are proud of the highly competitive teams we fielded, the laughter and fun shared, the community pride and goodwill generated, and the over 200 partnerships formed in the community. Our front office staff, players, coaches, summer interns and staff worked diligently to make an outing at Yale Field a memorable one and to perform many good works in the community. They are to be commended for their sense of service and unselfish commitment of time to helping others. In the end, however, we simply were unable to generate the corporate-type support necessary to sustain our operations.

We will miss the happy looks on the faces of fans, young and old alike, Tripper’s antics, children running the bases and seeking player autographs, “30 Seconds of Mayhem,” group picnics in the pavilion, between-inning skits involving fans, shouts of joy from the Fun Zone, Derrick Gibson hitting a moon shot over the trees beyond the left field fence, Saturday night fireworks, smells from Joe Grate’s BBQ, Irish Night, Thirsty Thursday’s, concerts and star entertainers, the classic beauty of Yale Field, reading in the classroom, School Day, youth camps and clinics, community appearances, and helping raise money for worthy causes. But, most of all, we will miss you, our extended family.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make a difference these past four years.

Sincerely,

David Boyle, President
Jonathan Fleisig, Chairman
Rick Handelman ,Vice Chairman
