The 2011 Collaboration Prize is a national award designed to showcase models of collaboration among nonprofit organizations. Madden Media, the Commission on Culture & Tourism's publishing partner, is creating the fall/winter edition of the Connecticut Getaway Guide, which will be distributed to 525,000 households in the New York-Connecticut metro area, as well as on www.CTvisit.com.

Peabody Summer Camps for Children Entering Grades 1-8

A number of Peabody Museum's week-long science and nature camps are still enrolling but time is running out. All camps include field trips, scientific discovery, activities, games and crafts, and exploration of the Museum’s exceptional collections. The camps at West Campus, with a focus on nature and the outdoors, take advantage of acres of woods, hiking trails and a stretch of the Oyster River that flows through campus. Volunteer for “I Love Greater New Haven Nonprofits” Campaign

Help create a buzz about the value of nonprofits to the Greater New Haven Community! Volunteers are needed to work the New Haven Green on Saturday, June 19, 4:30-7pm and Sunday, June 20, 3:30-6pm.

Buzz Agents will mingle among the picnicking crowd wearing (very cool) “I Love Greater New Haven Nonprofits” T-shirts, giving out stickers, Impact Fact Cards about over 60 local org’s, and Crossword Puzzles that challenge people to discover the names of the organizations. We will encourage people to pass cards from group to group, and drop conversation starters that encourage people to talk amongst themselves about the value of nonprofits to themselves and their community.

A résumé expert will review your résumé with you, and offer suggestions for improvement. Each person will receive a 10-15 minute résumé review, considering structure, wording, and main points. Handouts will be offered on action verbs, résumé samples, job search websites, and creating a résumé.

New Haven Chorale Seeks Executive Director

New Haven Chorale is seeking qualified candidates for the part-time position of Executive Director to  work with the Music Director, Chorale President, and an active volunteer Board and Business Manager. Responsibilities: review, revise and oversee implementation of strategic plan; plan and execute strategies to maintain and increase financial support; manage corporate sponsor program, major gifts, corporate and foundation grant applications and reporting; oversee annual fund campaign and fundraising and cultivation events; represent and advocate for the Chorale with other community groups, foundations, corporations, governmental offices and cultural organizations; coordinate operational and financial management of the Chorale including public relations and marketing.

Requirements: leadership experience in a paid or volunteer position in a nonprofit arts organization; record of successful arts fundraising is preferred.

Executive Director works from home approximately 20 hours/week; salary $21,000.

June is License Your Dog Month

Even if you never let your dog out without a leash, please support animal welfare programs throughout Connecticut by registering your dog in your town, at your City Clerk's office.  Dogs over 6 months must be vaccinated for rabies in order to be licensed. A rabies clinic ($12 innoculations) is scheduled for June 12, 1:30-3:30 at High Plains Community Center on Orange Center Road, Orange.

John Barricelli fans enjoyed delicious SoNo Baking Company bites at the library tonight!

Master baker and author of The SoNo Baking Company Cookbook was a hit tonight--books sold out and pastries were demolished in short order. The good news is that he will continue to schlep his delicious baked goods to the Worcester Square Farmers Markets on Saturdays, as well as to the Edgewood Park Farmers Market which opens this weekend.

Common Ground Cooking Camp July 5-August 13

Cooking Camp: Ages 8—12 are invited to build pizza from scratch and use farm fresh foods to cook up daily feasts.  Each day will include time to visit the farm animals and go on hikes and adventures in the forest in addition to plenty of cooking, eating and creating.

West Rock Rangers Camp: Ages 11 – 13 can experience an adventure-filled week,  identifying local plants and animals and developing  naturalis skills roaming West Rock Park. Each session ends with a  night hike in West Rock,an overnight campout at Common Ground and a campfire-cooked breakfast.

Dates: July 5-August 13, one or more weeks.
Time: 8:30 am–3 pm, extended day available until 5 pm
Fee: $215 per week, financial aid available.
