New Haven Chorale Auditions Sept. 9 and 11

Celebrating its 60th anniversary as a community choir, New Haven Chorale will hold auditions on Thursday, Sept. 9, 5–8pm and Saturday, Sept. 11, 10am–1pm. Concerts are scheduled for Dec. 12, Feb. 13, April 30 and May 1. First rehearsal is Monday, Sept. 13, 7:30 pm.

Volunteer Host needed for Honey Dewdrops on Jan. 19!

I am looking for someone in New Haven to host overnight  a young couple who will be performing at the New Haven Public Library, downtown branch, on Wed., Jan. 19.

The Honey Dewdrops are a married duet out of Virginia:  Laura Wortman (guitar, vocals) and Kagey Parrish (guitar, mandolin, vocals). Call for Submissions for The Seven Billionth Person Project

With an eye on the anticipated birth of the world’s seven billionth human in October 2012, The Seven Billionth Person Project is collecting creative responses to the question: What would you tell him or her about the world we live in?

Submissions in all media will be accepted, including, but not limited to, photographs (at least 900 x 720 pixels), text (100 words or less), video clips (not longer than three minutes), sculpture, and collage. Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, September 15, 2010.  Hard-copy submissions can be mailed to The Seven Billionth Person Project, Attn: Debbie Hesse, 70 Audubon St., 2nd floor, New Haven, CT 06510. Columbus House has moved several programs into a refurbished building next door on the Boulevard, and now has some used office furniture to move out by August 27. This includes desk chairs, waiting room chairs, lateral filing cabinets, metal and wood desks and computer stands.

Instructors needed for after school program in New Haven


Arte Inc. is looking for individuals to teach after school arts/education programs, 3:30-5:30 M-Th, starting in September. Prior experience a plus. Classes combine art lessons with education and Hispanic/Latino culture, but candidates need not be artists nor Hispanic. Instructors typically teach 2-4 days per week over 4-6 week periods.

Effect of the Economy on the Nonprofit Sector: A June 2010 Survey



Public charities and private foundations continued to take a beating during the first five months of 2010. Some 40% of participants in GuideStar's first nonprofit economic survey for 2010 reported that contributions to their organizations dropped between January 1-May 31, 2010, compared to the same period a year earlier/28% said that contributions had stayed about the same/30% stated contributions had increased.

Writing Workshop Leader needed at Coop Center for Creativity, New Haven

The Coop Center for Creativity seeks a Writing Workshop Leader to teach a 6-week after school course for public high school students. Inspired by the 826 Valencia national writing program http://826national.org/ the CCC Writing Workshop will result in a limited edition book of student writing.

Workshop Leader should be able to help students strengthen their writing skills while instilling in them a passion for writing and self-expression. Program begins in late October 2010 and meets 2x/week for six weeks.

We seek candidates with demonstrated energy and enthusiasm for developing an engaging curriculum and teaching students of various abilities one-on-one and in a group setting.
