First index of state's civic engagement now available


The new partnership between Everyday Democracy and Connecticut Secretary of State Denise Merrill with the National Conference on Citizenship (funded partly by William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund) has resulted in the first Connecticut Civic Health Index. Highlights:
Connecticut performs better than the national average on:
  • Volunteering
  • Voter turnout and registration
  • Charitable giving
  • Discussing politics
  • Internet connectedness
  • Belonging to organizations and groups
Connecticut performs lower than the national average on:

  • Working with neighbors to address community problems
  • Exchanging favors with neighbors
  • Social connectedness with family
Connecticut's numbers are on the rise or remain stable on:
  • Voter turnout for presidential elections
  • Volunteerism
  • Charitable giving
