New Life Corporation Seeks Program Manager

The Program Manager will oversee all programs operated by New Life Corporation, focusing on financial services, include financial education, tax preparation and financial coaching. Fundraisers for The New Haven Animal Shelter

You and your favorite dog are invited to Yappy Hour at Claire's Corner Copia and Basta Trattoria on Chapel St. in New Haven on Friday, Aug. 19 at 6, where $25 gets you both treats and provides needed fund for the Animal Shelter. Tickets at the door or online.

Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter is working with Helping Hands Community Thrift Store & Furniture Bank, LLC to raise funds for the shelter.  When you donate your unwanted items in the shelter's name, the shelter gets 18% of the sale of your items. Helping Hands is located at 1593 State St. in New Haven and is open M-S, 9:30-5.

United Way RFP for Jobs Services Funding

United Way’s current funding opportunity, Jobs at the Center: Integrated Services to Get and Sustain Employment, is designed to support programs and collaborations that advance opportunities for employment and access to benefits. Approximately $300,000 is available for fiscal year 2012. United Way anticipates investing in two to four proposals for Oct. 1, 2011-Sept. 30, 2012.


The Jobs at the Center RFP includes two required parts:   Part I, Notification of Intent to Apply, due July 22. Part II, full proposal, due August 5. Applicants  must attend mandatory Bidders' Conference scheduled for Monday, July 11 at 3 pm and Tuesday, July 12 at 9 am at United Way offices. Celebrate New Haven Preservation Trust's 50th Anniversary in Newport this summer

New Haven Preservation Trust celebrates its 50th anniversary with a bus tour to Newport on Saturday, July 23.  The trip includes a  tour of Bellevue House (a privately owned c. 1910 mansion, rarely open to the public), the Redwood Library and Athenaeum and the Newport Art Museum and Art Association.  $135 includes lunch, and reservations must be received by July 11. New Students Information Program at Gateway this summer

Gateway Community College offers a New Student Advising and Registration program to assist new students in understanding the academic world and to register them for their first semester of courses.


10 scheduled 2-hour sessions in July are still open for registration. Sessions continue in August. All sessions are held on GCC’s Long Wharf campus,  60 Sargent Dr., in room 205.

Data For Democracy webinars


The mission of the National Priorities Project is to make complex federal budget information transparent and accessible so people can prioritize and influence how their tax dollars are spent.


They designed a Data for Democracy Webinar Series to help elected officials, labor leaders, members of the media, organizers and community groups to use NPP's data and tools more effectively. Webinars are usually one hour, interactive and include state and localized data. Each webinar is accompanied by a powerpoint presentation, talking points and data sheets for customizing the materials.

Federal Budget 101, a 30-minute presentation introducing the federal budgeting process
