The New Haven Free Public Library is pleased to announce the
winners of the 2012 annual poetry contest, just revealed at the contest
reception held on April 21. Winners in
each age category include: Youth, Willow Maia Giannotti-Garlinghouse for her
poem entitled “From”; Teen, Tarpley Hitt, for her poem “Othniel Marsh”; and
Adult, Samantha Ostrowski, for her poem “ELM 1638.” Giannotti-Garlinghouse was also voted the “People’s Choice” winner at the reception.
Cash prizes were provided by the NHFPL Foundation.
Refreshments were provided by Starbucks on the Green and Subway Restaurant on
Whitney Avenue. Each of the winning poems will be published in a forthcoming
edition of NEW HAVEN REVIEW. The library
wishes to thank its 125th Presenting Sponsor, First Niagara, for
support of this event.
